Perry F. Dominy

Perry Dominy went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Toomsboro, Georgia, concluding a remarkable life on earth. Services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 1:30 PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Milledgeville. Reverend Andy Adams will officiate. Visitation precedes the service, beginning at 12:30 PM in the sanctuary of the church. Burial will be at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Dominy was born east of Nicklesville, in Wilkinson County, on April 1, 1922, the son of Annie Mae Braddy Dominy and Otis Heyward Perry Dominy. After graduating from Toomsboro High School, he went on to attend Carnegie Technical Institute in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania while in the U. S. Army. During World War II, he served as a gunner in the 90th Chemical Mortar Battalion, seeing action at the Ruhr Pocket and the Remagen Bridgehead as well as other locations in Belgium and Germany. After the war, Mr. Dominy attended the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Alpha Zeta and was a company commander in the Reserve Officer Training Program. He graduated in 1948, receiving a degree in Agricultural Engineering. Athens was also the place where he met the most wonderful woman in the world, the love of his life, and his future wife. Elizabeth Martin and Perry Dominy were married at Flemington, Georgia on October 20, 1951. Perry returned to Wilkinson County, where he taught vocational agriculture to veterans. He also was an egg producer, raised cattle, and worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. A career with the Soil Conservation Service took him to Soperton and then to Perry, Georgia where he and his wife settled and raised two children. During his early years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Throughout his married life, Perry was an accomplished gardener, producing many fresh vegetables for the supper table and cooking an unsurpassed recipe for cream style corn. He was a charter member of the Lord ? Hatfield Post of the American Legion as well as member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition, he served a term as president of the Georgia Chapter of the Soil Conservation Society of America. Perry was a strong supporter of Monroe Academy and The Westfield Schools. Though raised as a Baptist, Mr. Dominy was a dedicated Presbyterian for most of his life and served as a deacon in the Perry Presbyterian Church. After retirement, he and his wife returned to their farm in Wilkinson County to live out their golden years in paradise on earth. Perry served as president of the Wilkinson County Independent Property Owners Association during this period. He was also a delegate to district and state conventions of the Georgia Republican Party. Mr. Dominy is predeceased by his parents and a younger brother, Olin Owen Dominy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Martin Dominy; a daughter, Anne Dominy Metz and her husband Phil of Dacula, Georgia; a son, Perry Martin ?Marty? Dominy of Toomsboro; a sister-in-law, Amelia Dominy of Rincon, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Charles Jones Martin, III of Charleston, South Carolina; two nieces, Janice Tholstrup of Chapin, South Carolina and Amy Estes of Savannah, Georgia; and one nephew, Glen Cary Dominy of Oviedo, Florida.
