George Benjamin Geddy

July 4, 1926 - May 7, 2011

George Benjamin ?Chuck? Geddy passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Macon, Georgia. Chuck was born on July 4, 1926, to George Benjamin and Sarah Tyler Thomas Geddy in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Chuck?s paternal ancestors were early settlers of Williamsburg, Virginia and he grew up in Williamsburg and Richmond, Virginia. Upon graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, he joined the Marine Corps and served in the Pacific during World War II. When Chuck returned home, he met and married Helen Jean Barret and they moved to Williamsburg where he earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary. They moved again to Atlanta where he earned an advanced degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Chuck worked for almost 50 years in Florida with NASA?s space exploration, the Air Force?s missile systems and range operations, and with the defense industry. While he was an early contributor to our space exploration and defense technology, Chuck?s true passion from an early age was sailing his sailboat, the ?Nighthawk?. He was a member of the East Coast Sailing Association and its Commodore in 1981-82, a member of ?the Grumpy Old Sailors? also known as the ?Ole Salts?. Chuck also enjoyed many reunions with his Kappa Alpha Order fraternity brothers from William and Mary over the years. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lynne Tyler Kelly, and a granddaughter, Gwen Allison Geddy. He is survived by his wife, Helen Barret Geddy, and sons, George Benjamin Geddy, III, William Barret Geddy, and David Kim Geddy; his brother, Thomas Henley Geddy and his sister, Sarah Tyler St Clair; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Macon, Georgia on Saturday, May 21st at 10:30 am with a reception for family and friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for those wishing to honor Chuck?s life that they direct their memorials to the Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210, http://www.hospiceofcentralgeorgia.org or St. Francis Episcopal Church, 432 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210 http://www.stfrancismacon.com.
