Martha Brooks Lord

Martha Brooks Lord passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the age of 93 at Bolingreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bolingbroke, Georgia. A life celebration will be held at Ivey Baptist Church, Ivey, Georgia on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 2 PM with visitation at 1 PM. Burial will be private. Mrs. Lord was born in Gordon, Georgia to J. T. F. and Wilmoth Veal Brooks and is last surviving of ten children. She graduated from Gordon High School in 1937 and in later years owned Martha's Beauty Salon in Ivey, Georgia where she and her late husband, City of Ivey Mayor, W. Hubert Lord lived for 44 years. She and Hubert celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary before he went home to be with his Lord. She served our Lord as a faithful member of Ivey Baptist Church for many years as church pianist and in other areas of leadership in the church and the Ebenezer Baptist Association. She was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon at the time of her death. She was proceeded in death by her husband, W. Hubert Lord, son Harry William (Bill) Lord and grandson, William Anthony (Tony) Lord. Surviving children are Hugh (Polly) Lord, Ferney I. (Lenda) Lord, Dorothy Lord (Bill) Jones and Kaye Merritt Lord, daughter-in-law. She will be greatly missed by her eight surviving grandchildren: Donna Lord (Matthew) London, Neal (Heather) Lord; Tracei Lord (David) Ramsden, Leigh Lord (Ed) DuRoy, Dana (Eric) Kadaj; Keel Daniel, Michael (Katie) Daniel, Thomas (Heather) Johnson. Her 14 great grandchildren will also miss her, Grace and Emily London; Hannah Kate, Cooper, Elizabeth Rose (Lizzie), and Lindy Louise Lord; Llewellyn and Arrabella DuRoy, Elizabeth and Nicholas Kadaj; Ryan, Brandon, Breanna, and Amenia Lord. Martha also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lord Nesbitt of Birmingham, Alabama and Dorothy Brown Lord of Toomsboro, Georgia. The wonderful, special care the entire staff of Bolingreen gave her in the last years of her life is much appreciated by the entire family.
